A JOURNEY THROUGH NORMANDY

A JOURNEY THROUGH NORMANDY

The Levitation Project en Seine-Maritime | Forgetmat x Département de la Seine Maritime

INTENTION

With a signature style blending levitation, poetic movement, and a strong sense of place, Mathieu Forget brings his art to Normandy with one clear goal: to reveal the beauty of motion through landscapes, architecture, and human energy.

This exhibition invites visitors on a journey across Seine-Maritime — from the dramatic cliffs of Étretat to Dieppe, the docks of Le Havre to the old streets of Rouen, and through iconic landmarks like Jumièges Abbey and the Roman Theatre of Lillebonne. Each site becomes a stage where the body rises, floats, and performs — turning every location into a living, breathing scene.

Collaborating with local athletes, Mathieu celebrates the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games: pushing limits, embracing inclusion, passion, and freedom. These powerful encounters give life to striking visual works — both intimate and universal.

EXHIBITION

Hôtel du Département de la Seine-Maritime, Rouen, June 6 to September 10, 2024.

The Salon d’Honneur of the Hôtel du Département welcomes The Levitation Project to Seine-Maritime. A 20th-century heritage site, the space features a contemporary tapestry by Mathieu Matégot, which celebrates the region’s architecture and inspires Mathieu Forget’s scenography.

With its structured lines and Olympic spirit, the exhibition unfolds beneath a series of arches that lead to the centerpiece of the show — a sculptural work of Mathieu Forget in levitation, set against a deep blue backdrop: his signature piece.

The experience is immersive, extended outdoors with dynamic projections onto Rouen’s Tour des Archives. Every weekend, visitors and passersby can dive further into the artist’s imaginative world through this visual dialogue between architecture, movement, and light.

MASTERCLASSES

From February to April 2024, Mathieu Forget led a series of artistic masterclasses in five middle schools across Seine-Maritime, as part of the “Culture et Collèges” program. These workshops offered students the chance to discover levitation photography, explore their own creativity, question themes of grounding and elevation, and above all, experience art as a form of both personal and collective expression.

Each session resulted in a participatory photographic creation, blending students, their everyday surroundings, and choreographed gestures. A way to reimagine the school environment, reflect on the adolescent body, and explore the possibilities of movement.

The project culminates in five exhibitions, one in each participating school, where students can proudly showcase their work and discover the creations from other schools involved.
